The Invisalign® System
Braces have been seen as a rite of passage for children and teenagers. For years, a mouth full of metal was considered standard-issue for young people, but now, more adults are straightening their teeth. While a better-aligned smile may be the goal, many adults, and for that matter teens, would like to avoid the time and effort that are required to maintain traditional braces.
As an alternative, Dr. Duke Kim offers the Invisalign® system for straightening your teeth. Invisalign aligners are crafted to fit your smile, and are clear, meaning that others will not notice that you are wearing them, even as they work to straighten your teeth. The Invisalign system has been used to successfully treat crowded teeth, overbites and crossbites and can close the gaps in your smile.
The aligners are crafted from an impression made of your teeth. As you wear your aligners, your teeth are gently shifted left or right, or even up and down, to give you a straighter and healthier smile. You will normally wear them from 20-22 hours each day, and will need to take them out to eat and to clean your teeth. In a typical case, you will change your aligners each week. They are easy to remove and clean, and don’t require the work needed to maintain braces. Cleaning your aligner is as simple as brushing and rinsing it with warm water. If you play sports, you should be concerned about damaging your braces, but this is not a factor with Invisalign.
If you are interested in learning more about how invisalign works, and whether or not it may work for you, Dr. Kim would love to see you for an exam and a consultation. If you live in the Arlington VA area, please call (703) 291-3111 to schedule an appointment at Ballston Dental Arts.
